Description

La Duchère Sports Centre opened in 2010 and boasts a state-of-the-art sports complex, frequented by renowned athletes such as Christophe Lemaître, Renaud Lavillenie and Floria Gueye. Located within the Fort de Balmont, it is easily accessible and enjoys an exceptional and secure natural setting. It has been part of the vibrant sports and community life of this cosmopolitan neighborhood for the past ten years. Featuring a full indoor athletics track, an outdoor track and an outdoor pool, La Duchère Sports Centre provides everything athletes require to prepare for competition.

Special features

La Duchère Sports Centre has a rest & recovery area (with a sauna) in the Stéphane Diagana Indoor Stadium, as well as a weight training room designed to meet the needs of high-level athletes. The equipment is entirely self-contained, guaranteeing the confidentiality of training sessions. Office space can also be provided to site users for analysis work. Last but not least, the very short distances between the three facilities (swimming pool, indoor stadium and outdoor track) facilitate the preparation of sessions and reduce travel time to a strict minimum. The facilities of the Stéphane Diagana Stadium are fully accessible to paralympic athletes.

Known for

The Diagana Stadium hosted the World Masters Championships in 2015 and is a frequent venue for the French university and junior athletics championships. It organises a total of twenty events per year, divided between the outdoor and indoor tracks. The Balmont Stadium, which is Lyon’s 3rd largest stadium in terms of capacity, regularly hosts French F.A Cup matches as well as national soccer championship games. In 2018, the site was chosen by the Chinese national athletics team for its training sessions.
