Description

Located in the city centre, the Pierre de Coubertin sports complex was designed to meet the needs of athletes and offers the possibility to participate in numerous sports activities. It includes a weight-lifting room (Jean Debuf), a dance room, a power-training exercise room (Raymond HERBAUX), an area dedicated to cycling, a tennis and badminton hall, four football pitches including one artificial surface pitch, an athletics track, a basketball hall, a dojo, a gymnastics hall, a table tennis/archery room and a multi-sports hall.

Special features

Its advantages include the installation close to the Jean Debuf Hall of a sauna and a power-training area ensuring maximum comfort for all the sportsmen and women who train there. A massage table is also available. Other advantages are its 16 training areas and 25 Olympic bars, including 8 women’s bars, with loads above 200kg each. Specially created for this sport, it is equipped with a reinforced concrete floor slab designed to withstand repeated falls of 250kg bars falling from a height of 2.5m.

Fitted with a removable curtain, it also allows the hall to be separated into two parts for the athletes’ warm-up.

Known for

To prepare for the 2012 London Olympics, the Vietnamese and Italian national teams used the facility at Comines, as did the French team paralympic athlete Souad Ghazouani, who was Olympic gold medallist that same year in the under 67.5kg category.

Numerous records are associated with the hall, in particular those of Vincent Fontenelle, Champion of France Elite 102kg in 2019, triple World Champion in the masters M35 category. Vincent is also trainer at the Club Haltérophile Cominois Decottignies (CHCD).

Ranked amongst the major competitions in France, the annual “Mémorial Decottignies” meeting, organised by the CHCD in memory of the Champion Edmond Decottignies, founder of the club, celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
