Description
The rowing and Paralympic rowing site is located in the heart of the City of Metz, in a historic building. The Société des Régates Messines is one of the few clubs in France to have all the following labels: 3-star French Rowing School label, Avi'Fit label, Handi Aviron label, Sport Santé label and can thus offer everyone the chance to practise rowing in all its forms. Beyond the standard changing rooms/showers (including disabled facilities) and sanitary facilities, the building is also equipped with a small weights room with ergometers, a bar area on the first floor for organising catering and a boathouse (with workshop in the immediate vicinity). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaA8FViAI4g
Special features
The first asset of this site is the exceptional setting which mixes both natural and urban. Indeed, the Régates Messines site is right next to the Marina, the banks of the Moselle and the historic centre of Metz.
Athletes will have a direct view of the Temple Neuf and Metz Cathedral.
In addition, the possibility of sailing both on the Lake for specific training as well as on 8.5km on the Moselle is an additional advantage, especially as commercial traffic is limited on the Moselle.
Finally, the city centre location means athletes can walk to the site from their hotel.
Known for
The Têtes de Rivière competition (rowers from the Grand Est region and from Germany) is organised each year by the Régates Messines club. 300 competitors from the Grand Est and Germany take part in this race consisting of a 6km loop.
In addition, one of the last two French Olympic medallists (Atlanta Olympic Games in 1996) is Christine Gossé, a rower from Metz.
