Description

The Sancerre mountain bike stadium, located on the l’Orme au Loup hill, is the perfect complement to the existing French Cycling Federation site and is a major asset for high-level mountain biking. From local clubs all the way up to the French national team, this stadium is a learning environment that provides training in all aspects of modern mountain biking and will ensure the future development of the sport. The location of the facility, away from the town centre and surrounded by trees and plenty of greenery, ensures peace and privacy.  The beautiful Sancerre landscape, currently awaiting inclusion as a Unesco heritage site, and the Loire River can be seen from the slopes and offer a unique and unforgettable backdrop for mountain biking. Road works to improve access to the site are planned for June 2023.

Special features

Sancerre is an hour and forty-five minutes from Paris by motorway. A direct train line serves the two local stations of Cosne-sur-Loire and Tracy-sur-Loire. The countryside of our winegrowing region provides almost 1,500 kms of signposted rural paths and tracks catering for all levels of the sport and the town of Sancerre is ideally located at the heart of the area. The existing design of the stadium would require only minor alterations and would allow for the practice of other sports at the same time (trail running, pony trekking, trial biking etc).

The local Jacques Cartier Stadium, located less than 3kms from the mountain bike stadium, was fully renovated in 2022 and complements the facilities of the sport centre with its changing rooms, dining room, video room and bike washing and repair facilities. Travel between the two locations is easy and safe. In addition, the CREPS Centre Val de Loire (forty minutes from Sancerre) is renowned for its welcome and the hospitality it extends towards professional sports teams.

Known for

Sancerre and mountain biking have a long-shared history. Sancerre was the host of the first French mountain bike/cross-country championships when the sport was still in its infancy. Nowadays, Sancerre is a training site for local clubs, a location for professional courses for the county and regional committees as well as a training centre for future mountain bike managers with the CREPS in Bourges. Local and regional competitions are also held here on an annual basis.
