Description

Located in the department of Corrèze, near A20 Highway (4h30 from Paris) , Pompadour is a real Horse City. The “Haras National de Pompadour”, which contributed to the birth of the Anglo-Arab horse breed in the XIX^th century, has gained broad recognition thanks to the diversity and quality of its competitions. Pompadour hosts 160 days of sports-, culture- and tourist-related equestrian events every year. It has a very active associative life, including the “Société de Concours Hippiques de Pompadour” (created in 1952 and organizer of competitions in the three equestrian Olympic disciplines), the “Société des Courses de Pompadour” (organizer of horse races since 1837) and “Scènes de Manège” (organizer of cultural and touristic events such as horse shows). The same goes for the municipality and the territorial collectivities, the richness and diversity of all events organized reflects their active involvement. Nowadays, the equestrian stadium “Puy Marmont” is only used for hosting competitions in the three equestrian Olympic disciplines. It is complemented by the racecourse and its magnificent cross-country course, which gives Pompadour its specificity. These high-quality facilities and the castle of Pompadour give this city a special and majestic setting,  showing the richness of its local heritage. All facilities are located in the village center. Pompadour distinguishes itself by the quality of its infrastructure, proven by the recognition acquired as a major equestrian site in France, particularly in eventing.

All of the facilities are close to each other, making them easily accessible. Furthermore, the department of Corrèze offers a preserved environment, ideal for both horses and  riders.

Accommodation is of great quality : 170 wide and comfortable permanent stalls for the horses and many accommodation options for the riders and their team.

Known for

The “Haras National de Pompadour” hosts two major eventing competitions every year : the “Grand National Pro Elite” and the “Grande Semaine” (young horses national finals).

The “Grand National Pro Elite” is part of the French professional riders Championship, counting on the participation of the best eventing riders such as the Olympic Champions of Rio 2016. In 2021 this event will be a preparation for the Tokyo Olympic Games, with the presence of Michel Asseray, the French National Technical Delegate.

The “Grande Semaine de Pompadour” awards the best young horses in eventing, some of which are selected for the “Mondial du Lion”. It is a major event for Pompadour but also for the young horses tour and the french horse industry.
