The Plaine des Jeux in Gerland accommodates a number of high-level sports facilities, including a professional rugby stadium in a listed architectural complex, a multi-purpose sports centre with several accredited pitches (natural and synthetic), and the Palais des Sports hall for indoor training.
The sports facilities are located 45 minutes from the airport and 5 minutes from Lyon’s historic downtown area, with which it has convenient metro connections. The various sites are within easy walking or biking distance of each other, as well as being close to the Tony Parker Academy, a high-quality hotel and a renovated swimming pool. Enjoying a prime location in a natural park on the banks of the Rhone River, the Gerland facilities regularly host well-known international events and are managed by an experienced team of sports event organisers.
Having been the home of the Olympique Lyonnais football club for over 70 years, the Stade de Gerland is now the stadium of the premier league LOU Rugby team. This mythical stadium also hosted matches during the 1998 Football World Cup and the 2007 Rugby World Cup. Nearby, the Palais des Sports has hosted the 6ème Sens WTA Open women’s tennis tournament since 2020.
Having been chosen as the venue for the Tour de France Village in 2012 and 2020, the Gerland site is perfectly suited to both large-scale public events and private training sessions. Important events of another kind were held in the Palais des Sports in the 1970s, including concerts by the legendary Rolling Stones, The Who, Led Zeppelin and Sting. A historic site for sure!
