Description

Hénin-Beaumont is a town located in the Hauts-de-France between Arras and Lille. The room Wilquin of the sporting area François Mitterrand has been chosen as preparation centre of the town of Hénin-Beaumont for the Olympic Games in 2024. It is located in the heart of the mining area, about 200 kms in the north of Paris. You can reach this geographic region easily from Paris using different means of transport. Access through the A1 highway, the TGV stations, the Lille Lesquin airport which are near from the municipality. The town of Hénin-Beaumont has a large number of sporting infrastructures: more than 50 inside and outside and close equipments. They are in open or checked access for free or supervised practice. The sporting area François Mitterrand is a large quality sporting centre including a climbing wall, two multipurpose rooms, three covered tennis courts, two outside tennis courts and one outside padel, two fitness rooms, multisports, a dojo, a boxing hall, a grass field, a synthetic field, one athletics track of 400 m. In this complex, there is in particular the Wilquin multi-sports hall with the capacity to accommodate 800 sitting positions, all in the same enclosure, closed with electric gate with access control. Many sporting events are organized on the site (national fencing circuit, nationwide and worldwide boxing gala, open tennis championship …) This complex is completely able to accomodate the top athletes. Special features

A large shopping centre, completed by important hotels and restaurants chains, is located at less than 3 kms of the sporting area François Mitterrand.

Moreover, in front of the site, the Henri Senez high school provides an institutional catering and a teaching restaurant.

Selected on a regional project with accredited application within territories, the town of Hénin-Beaumont is committed in the construction of an elite sporting equipment during the year 2023 to ensure that the gymnastic and fencing clubs can train and practice the disciplines at the highest level of excellence.

The second objective is to accommodate nationwide or worldwide sporting events.

Known for

The François Mitterrand sporting area, inaugurated in 1997, welcomed since this date many prestigious sporting events from several disciplines.

Therefore, in fencing, we must remember the four European Champion’s Clubs’ Cup organized in 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003, and then in 2011, the European Veterans Championships bringing together nearly 1200 participants for 40 nations during 4 days, excellent moments for many.

Then will join various French championships as Cadets, Juniors, Seniors Categories with in particular the Seniors French Championships in 2012, in the sword discipline with the participation of “Laura Flessel”, flag-bearer during the Olympic Games of 2012 in London. Finally, the recently great success when organizing the two Youth Festivals (less than 15 years old, National, all fencing weapons) in 2018 and 2019 where more than 3000 people met again in the François Mitterrand sporting area.
