Description

The Espace Mayenne, inaugurated in 2021, is the department's flagship facility and a major sports site in western France, at the cutting edge of technology and modernity. It consists of two distinct and complementary spaces, specifically designed to be accessible for all: 1- A modular main room with  multi-purpose design (sports, shows, concerts, congresses, professional events) will allow the hosting of major sporting events thanks to its area approved for handball, volleyball, basketball and badminton at international level and large sporting gatherings promoting the social dimension of sport. 2- A secondary room made up of 2 practice areas: - A 44x24m sports area 9m high and equipped with 500 seats in handball configuration, which can be supplemented by at least 200 seats in removable stands, - A climbing area with an artificial structure 16.50 m high, of international standard, accommodating up to 2,000 people during major competitions, and an adjoining warm-up room.   This secondary room can be used as a competition space for national and international teams, but also as a work out room during competitions in the main hall.   The equipment is completed by an assembly hall and meeting and function rooms.

Special features

Due to its central position in the department and close to downtown Laval, the Espace Mayenne is easily accessible from Paris (TGV in 70 minutes) or from Rennes airport (55 minutes) and 5 minutes from the exit from the A81 motorway.

The hospital centre, located less than 10 minutes by car, has an efficient sports medicine service with two doctors, an intern, a sports instructor, a sports dietician, a sports psychologist and physiotherapists. It is also perfectly equipped for performing all types of sports tests.

About twenty hotels, including the CREF with 40 rooms as well as 13 PMR rooms, and a variety of catering options are accessible in less than 10 minutes from the Espace Mayenne.

Known for

Inaugurated in 2021, the Espace Mayenne has already been selected by ASO to be the site of the arrival of the 5th stage of the Tour de France 2021, on Wednesday June 30th. In particular, it will host all the official press on the Tour de France.

Its international climbing wall will make it possible to host national and international competitions from 2022.

The Espace Mayenne is also a candidate to host the World Sitting Volleyball Championships in 2022 or 2023.
