Description

Mâcon is ideally located in the heart of Europe. The capital of South Burgundy can be found 1 hour 35 minutes away from the Olympic sites of Paris 2024 by high-speed rail and 3 hours 45 minutes by car. The two international airports of Lyon Saint-Exupéry and Geneva allow you to reach this area in just 1 hour by car. The Fernand-Velon sports complex is located in the city centre close to the train station and all amenities. As the facilities were installed in former wine cellars in 1998, it offers an exceptional training environment thanks to its stone walls and brightness. The equipment has two saunas and two weights rooms, which will allow your athletes to properly prepare themselves physically.

Just 5 minutes’ walk away, in Mâcon sports centre, is a cryotherapy facility which can accommodate five athletes at any one time.

The complex is near the Saône River, along which there is a secure cycle track and pedestrian route (the blue path).

The complex has a 40-seater hall with a kitchen enabling your staff and athletes to eat in line with your requirements.

The city has eight 4-star hotels and eighteen 3-star hotels, i.e. 807 rooms less than 10 minutes away.

Known for

The local Club, Mâcon Lutte Olympique (Macon Olympic Wrestling) has 140 members of the FFL (French Wrestling Federation). In recent years, it has trained world-class athletes such as the brothers Ibrahim and Lokman Kaplanbaba and also the champion Metty Greneron-Mondange.
In 2016, the club organised the World Junior Championships with 76 foreign delegations.
Teams from the United Kingdom, Egypt, Israel, Algeria and France used the Fernand-Velon complex to prepare for these Championships.
In 2016, Mâcon hosted the International Federation of Associated Wrestling Styles conference which brought together 130 countries.
Furthermore, the city has 9 French championship wrestling organisations, including the French wheelchair championship (2017).
