Description

Situated in the heart of Burgundy, Grand Chalon is easily accessible by all modes of transport.  Its central town, Chalon-sur-Saone, is served by France’s main motorway (A6).  It is located 120 km north of Lyon and can be reached in 2 hours 30 minutes by TGV from Paris.   The centre of Grand Chalon has two major high quality sporting venues, located on the same site, just 5 minutes from the town centre. Firstly, the “Colisee” is a purpose-built sporting arena of 12,700m2 which can accommodate up to 5,000 spectators.  It’s a well known venue for the  teams from the French National Basketball championship. Secondly, the “Espace Nautique” has six pools (indoor and outdoor) including one of Olympic size.  The two venues are completely accessible for  the disabled.  They have several car parks, free shuttle buses and local bus services.  Athletes have a number of relaxation and recovery spaces available to them.  Between now and 2024 the centres will be undergoing refurbishment that will result in reducing the energy impact as well as improving the comfort for athletes (WIFI, lighting, building repairs…).   By choosing to train here, the delegations can count on the commitment of Grand Chalon’s professionals, the excellent nearby medical services, the experience of the best in hospitality, easy access to the countryside and of course, the support of locals for whom participating in sport and supporting their clubs are established traditions.

On a single site; easy access to the town centre; proximity of major transport networks (A6 motoway, TGV railway, Airport at 90mins) and medical facilities.  The main hospital is 10 minutes away and the Specialist Sports Clinic will be available to the delegations.  The centre has many preparation rooms (meeting rooms, adjoining gym, weight room, cardio room) and recovery rooms (steam room, two saunas, treatment room) available.  Large numbers of support staff can be accommodated (4 reception rooms for up to 450 people, many meeting rooms and a video viewing space) with restaurant capacity on site.  3,700 beds are available throughout Grand Chalon and catering is of the highest quality.  Easy access to the surrounding countryside (vineyards, forests…).

At the Colisee: 2017 ProA championship final; the 2016 Final Four; 2017 Playoff Finals; FIBA Europe Cup Finals 2016-2017; training sessions for the France A and A’Handibasket teams for the European Championships 2019; hosting the Harlem Globetrotters.

At the Espace Nautique: the Grand Chalon National Meeting; the French Masters championships; hosting Yannick Agnel in 2016 prior to his selection for the Rio Olympics at 50, 200 and 400 metres freestyle.
