Description

Chnatonnay is the administrative centre of the administrative district of an area situated in the heart of Vendée in the Vendean "bocage". It takes its strength in its history and is still developing like the region. Ideally located, it is 45km far from Les Sables d'Olonne and its beaches, one hour far from Nantes and La Rochelle, and 30min far from the "Puy du fou" theme park. With an area of 8,000 hectares and 6,700 Inhabitants, our local administrative centre is rich thanks to a remarkable natural heritage and the source of a great biodiversity. First of all, everybody enjoys the quailty of its environement. The topography, the rivers, the bocage, the agricutural areas and its numerous walking trails and cycle paths are the best points of Chantonnay. Our town beautifully plays its role as the capital of the bocage. It is the centre of the local council community of Chantonnay, which indudes 10 other towns. The result is a population of 23 000 inhabitants. Many different firms are represented : from very small firms to big ones employing more than 200 employees.

There are more than 150 cultural and leisure associations in Chantonnay. There also many private and public schools, which thus contribute to the societal and economical dynamism of the town.

Every year, it becomes the International centre of the hiking, thanks to the RAJC, registred in the international centres of the International league of the hiking.
Chantonnay has received the label « Ville sportive » as a reward. It owns remarkable infrastructures. Throughout the years, Chantonnay has developed 4 sports halls, 6 football fields, one dojo, one boules pitch, one rugby field … and very soon, a big intercommunal swimming-pool spread on 2 hectares, which includes 3 pools, 6 lanes, a space dedicated to the well-being and activities In relation with health (sauna,
hamman, massaged showers…).

Known for

Cycling is very important in Chantonnay. Lots of races take place here every year, includieng great competitions like “Le circuit des plages vendéennes”, “Le Tour de France”, being a stage in 1997. Chantonnay also organised the French Road cycling championships in 2006, 2010 and 2015. Our town has acquired a very good reputation in cycling in Vendée.

More than 365 races take place in Vendée every year. All the categories, such as Road, mountain biking, BMX, track, are represented thanks the the dynamism of sport associations which include many members.
