Description

The Base Nature François Léotard is a 135-hectare free space by the sea. 85 hectares of this space consist of protected natural spaces for outdoor enthusiasts, the rest being dedicated to sport and leisure activities. Indeed, numerous sports facilities are free of use on site: earthen pump track, BMX area, Beach Volleyball court, 2 synthetic football fields and 1 for rugby players, pickle ball and basketball courts, rollerblading, cycle path, playground for children, cross country course, an orientation trail, fitness trail, strength-building machines… a 25-meter swimming pool by the sea. As a former naval air base, there is a 6000m2 covered space (former aircraft hangar) which makes also the strength of this training site. This place, situated right by the sea also have a 1,5km fine sandy beach. It is also close to quality accommodations some of which have fitness equipment (spa, balneotherapy, swimming pool, etc.) and restoration.

The site of the Base Nature François Léotard enjoys direct proximity with the sea and represents a real green lung in the heart of the city, a part of its surface being classified Natura 2000.

With one of the highest levels of sunshine in France, the Base Nature is an exceptional setting which makes it an ideal site for preparing for high-level competitions.

Many road routes are accessible from Fréjus and the Base Nature François Léotard. Its geographical location near the Massif des Maures offers a quality training ground for both road cycling and mountain biking.

In addition, many parking spaces facilitate gathering and events.

Known for

Since the purchase of the Base nature by the city, this site has become, thanks to its enormous potential, the ideal place to organize tournaments and competitions of all levels. Here are some examples:

  • The Roc d’Azur, international mountain biking competition that has existed on this site since 1995 and is renewed every year. This event welcomes an average of 20, 000 participants and 100, 000 visitors. It also counts for the qualifications for the world’s championships.
  • Cross championships: national, UNSS
  • International pétanque tournaments (televised)
  • Beach soccer, beach rugby tournaments
  • Corporate football tournaments
  • Motorboat competition in 2015
  • Organization of kite surfing rounds
