After its “Terre de Jeux” label obtained in 2019, the Agglomeration Community of Niortais, the towns of Niort and Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon, fully committed to sport, have joined forces to create a Preparation Center for Olympic Games and thus make the area of Niort an adoptive home for athletes who would like to come and train there. Several sports facilities, thanks to their diversity, have been selected to accommodate able-bodied and disabled athletes: the Venise Verte sports complex, the Acclameur, the Pré-Leroy swimming pool, the table tennis center, the Gymnase du Grand Feu and the future dojo of Mauzé-sur-le-Mignon.
The proximity of the Niort Games Preparation Center with Paris (less than 2 hours by train) on a human-sized territory, at the heart of the Marais Poitevin and near the Atlantic Ocean, its quality sports facilities, its offer of diversified and affordable accommodation make this center a place of choice for French and foreign athletes.
In October-November 2019, the area hosted a delegation of young high-level Chinese athletes in residence as part of their preparation for the Olympic Games. At the Venise Verte complex in Niort, 19 athletes trained in different disciplines such as the 100m, the long jump, the pole vault or the 100m hurdles.
