Description

A few hundred metres from the hotels and restaurants, the athletics centre at the Bernard Becavin stadium in Cognac was established 40 years ago. It is a circular track of 6 corridors of 400 meters, and 8 corridors in straight lines. A lawn sports field is at the centre of the track. It has traditional jumping and throwing areas, changing rooms, grandstands and adjoining multi-sport gymnasium. The athletics track was renovated in 2011. This was when the new locker rooms were also built as well as the meeting room and grandstands. The athletics track has been redesigned under the standards of the Fédération Française d’Athlétisme (French Athletics Federation). It consists of a specific synthetic coating, permeable to rainwater and covering two distinct layers of asphalt, the first of which drains stormwater to a peripheral gutter. The centre is licensed to accommodate people with disabilities. All the ancillary equipment of jumps and throws are also up to standard: long jump, triple jump, high jump, inrun tracks for javelin, discus throw cage (changed in 2020), etc. For better preparation, the centre has a multi-sport complex and an aquatic centre within its perimeter.

Special features

The complex has all the facilities described above on one site for good preparation for the various disciplines of athletics. The structures are well maintained and up to standards.

The location of the centre, close to a town of 20,000 inhabitants, in a residential setting, allows athletes to prepare in peace and serenity.

The complex is very regularly made available to associations for training, but also for athletes of national and international level.

During the year, the Grand Cognac area offers high-profile events (Cognac blues passion, cognac festival…) and more intimate events (Coup de Chauffe,..), making up an eclectic cultural offer.

Known for

The Cognac Athletic Club association, with its 70 volunteers, hosted the 2013 French Combined Events Championship, as well as the organisation of inter-regional meetings of Grand Cognac, and the regional and departmental championships.
